Jeanneret Kangaroo Chair

The Pierre Jeanneret Kangaroo Chair is one of the most distinctive seating designs to emerge from the Chandigarh project, recognized for its sculptural form and relaxed, low-slung proportions.
Defined by its characteristic angled legs and deep, reclined seat, the chair introduces a sense of informality while maintaining a strong architectural presence. Its composition is both expressive and restrained, allowing the structure itself to define the identity of the piece.
Crafted from solid teak wood, the frame highlights the natural warmth, strength, and durability that have become synonymous with Jeanneret’s work. The richness of the teak grain, combined with precise joinery, gives the chair a sense of permanence and material depth.
The seat and backrest are handwoven in natural cane, providing flexibility and breathability while enhancing comfort in a more relaxed seating position. This interplay between solid wood and woven cane creates a balanced contrast between structure and softness.
Produced using traditional techniques in Chandigarh, India, the Kangaroo Chair reflects a continuity of craftsmanship rooted in its origins. Subtle variations in the wood and weave ensure that each piece carries its own unique character.
More than a lounge chair, it functions as a sculptural element within the interior—ideal for living spaces, reading areas, or environments where design and material expression take precedence.
Its presence is unmistakable: relaxed, architectural, and enduring.
*To maintain the integrity of the natural cane over time, we recommend using chair pads for regular seating.
